Salah was named the PFA Player of the Year by his peers in a ceremony in London’s Grovner House Hotel. It marks a remarkable season for the Liverpool striker who has now scored 41 goals in 46 games for the Reds in his debut season.
Signed from Roma last summer for £34m, Salah was added to a Liverpool front-line consisting of Roberto Firminio and Sadio Mane with all three players going onto score over 80 goals between them. However, out of the three players, Salah has stood out as the star performer.
The 25-year-old Egyptian international beat Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne to the award. Both players have been in outstanding form with De Bruyne being a key contributor in City’s title-winning season.
The Egyptian told the media after he picked up the PFA award: “It’s a big honour. I don’t think about myself. The most important thing is to win something with the team and we’re very close now with the semi-final. Hopefully, we’re going to win.
“The team has helped me a lot because of the way we play. They pass me the ball a lot and always try to find me.”
Salah will now have a chance to lead Liverpool to glory in the Champions League when his side takes on his former club Roma in the semi-finals of the Champions League.
Liverpool goes into the game as clear favourites and will be hoping to make tomorrow nights home advantage count. However, they will have to be cautious of Roma who turned around a first-leg 4-1 defeat to Barcelona in the last-eight to progress through to this stage.
If Liverpool does go on to win the Champions League then surely Salah will be in consideration for the Ballon d’Or award this year
